About Our Pastor
back

Pastor Bob David is an alcoholic who has been in recovery since 1984. He met Christ at a Cursillo Weekend in 1986. Since 1986, he has been involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Kairos is an international ministry to the incarcerated. It consists of semiannual 3 day retreats based on the Cursillo method to introduce new inmates to Kairos; semiannual 2 day retreats for further ministry; monthly gatherings of the entire Kairos community in that institution; and weekly prayer and share groups. Kairos introduces the incarcerated to Christ or strengthens their relationship with Christ if they already have one. In 1996 he assisted in bringing the Epiphany Prison Ministry to Texas. Epiphany is a ministry to incarcerated youth based on the Kairos model. He has served on both the state and national board of directors of this ministry.

For nine years he was the Music Minister of the Lord of the Streets Episcopal Church, a mid-town Houston homeless ministry. This ministry holds an early Sunday morning service, feeds over 200 homeless people breakfast, has medical assistance, job assistance and alcohol and drug abuse counseling. In this ministry he participated in the alcohol and drug abuse counseling and delivered the Sunday morning sermon monthly.

At First Presbyterian Church in Pearland he has been the director of our Alpha program, Evangelism and Missions Minister, a member of the Acts 16:5 ministry, and the representative to the CityFest to be held October 7-8, 2006.

In the winter of 2004, he heard God calling him into full time ministry. Not knowing exactly what God wanted, with his wife’s agreement and full support, he left the business world to follow this call. After many discussions with spiritual advisors and friends, he was led to the Barnabas  Ministry at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. He attended their course on church planting in the summer of 2005 and in that process God’s call became clear. His whole life God had been preparing him to serve the Recovery Community by planting a church where they would be more comfortable in an informal, contemporary worship setting that acknowledges and honors their struggles.
